Next up on the member spotlight is Jenny Clemmens, Head of Platform Partnerships. She leads an incredible team responsible for all new business development and partner management, to further help improve access to care. She loves a good challenge when it comes to solving for partners’ needs—even when there’s no wi-fi!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

For the last decade, I’ve worked in sales and account management at both startup and large tech companies in the advertising, fintech and transportation industries. I have a passion for understanding how things work, so even while in sales and account management roles, I’ve always been eager to roll up my sleeves and learn the technical and operational components of Lyft and our partners’ products and business models. At Lyft Healthcare, I lead our Platform Partnerships Team, which consists of new business development and partner management for transportation brokers including traditional non-emergency medical transportation and workers’ compensation, RX delivery, and clinical trials.

What inspires you the most being a part of Lyft Healthcare?

The most inspiring part of the work is seeing the results. When patient post-appointment pickup wait times are reduced by 75%, the work is meaningful. Or when a partner tells us that their member satisfaction has improved since incorporating Lyft into their program, you remember that what you’re doing has a positive impact on real people.

What’s your favorite part about your job?

When you tell someone you work in Healthcare transportation, their eyes may begin to glaze over. It takes about five minutes to explain that the work is actually a fascinating puzzle of technology, operations, state and federal legislation, regulation, policymaking, and privacy law. At that point, they either truly regret asking me what I do, or they think it’s really cool that Lyft is in this business. I agree with the latter. Lyft has been a unique opportunity to learn from some of the brightest people I’ve met–it’s a bonus that they feel like family–and to do work that has a tangible impact on Medicaid and Medicare patients across the country. Each state program we work with is unique, so there’s never a shortage of interesting challenges to solve.

Tell us something most people would be surprised to learn about you?

I grew up in a small town in Texas without cable or internet. To this day, there is no high-speed internet on my parents’ ranch, though there is the equivalent of dial-up. When I’m visiting my family, my team may experience me calling into our 1:1 from my parents’ landline!

Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Curiosity is a conduit for change. No matter what line of work you’re in or what your role is, curiosity is one of the greatest assets you can bring to any conflict, obstacle or solution.
