Member Spotlight: Delia Johnson

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m originally from Florida and was a “digital nomad” before it was fashionable by migrating north and west across the country. Moves have taken me to Tallahassee, Cincinnati, Ann Arbor, Seattle, the San Francisco Bay Area for the past 5 years, and now I’m moving to Chicago at year’s end to be closer to family and friends! My career began in the healthcare IT business as an Account Manager, and I migrated to data analytics consulting, where my clients were employer sponsored health plans and government payers. The desire for more challenging opportunities led me to law school, and my post law school path led back to the healthcare industry, where I worked with both hospitals and health plans. Lyft recruited me to build a compliance program to support its fast-growing healthcare business vertical, and so far it has been the career ride of a lifetime!

What inspires you the most being a part of Lyft Healthcare? 

My experiences at Lyft Healthcare are the first time in my career that I can easily see the positive impact of the work that we do in the lives of those we serve.  As a mission focused professional who is keenly aware of the many challenges in our healthcare system, it has been rewarding to work on projects that have increased access to care via the world’s best transportation!  It’s amazing that Lyft’s healthcare business has grown tremendously in a few short years, and it’s been a thrill to be part of such a dynamic team that has enabled this rapid expansion.   

What’s your favorite part about your job? 

I lead an outstanding healthcare compliance team that are united in their efforts to bring value to our healthcare business partners. Our efforts enable Lyft’s heavily regulated healthcare business to grow quickly in a compliant manner.  My team members are all wonderful people, and I enjoy working with them and following their personal and professional successes.  We’re also privileged to have outstanding business partners in the healthcare business team that make coming to work both fun and challenging.

Tell us something most people would be surprised to learn about you? 

I recently changed my life by becoming plant based/vegan, and I am also working to fulfill my childhood dreams of traveling the world.  COVID taught us that our world can be turned upside down in an instant, so it’s important to focus on doing meaningful things and practicing self-care and wellness to make the most of our daily lives.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? 

Know yourself and the impact you want to have on the world.
